Six Random Things

I got tagged by Cloud 9 at My Book Reviews! She's left a couple of comments here recently.

Here's the rules for those I'm tagging. Check the list after my 6 THINGS to see if you're it then:

1. Link to the person who tagged you.

2. Post the rules on your blog.

3. Write six random things about yourself.

4. Tag sixish people at the end of your post.

5. Let each person know he or she has been tagged.

6. Let the tagger know when your entry is up.

Now, for six random things about me. Knowing me, this shouldn't be to hard. I just hope this post doesn't end up being uber long. *smiles*

1.) I am addicted to.... *whispers* book contests. I can't resist. They call to me. Every time I see one that looks even vaguely interesting, I sign up. Even if I haven't read the author before, haven't even heard of them before, it doesn't matter. If it sounds good, I'm in. Speaking of, does anybody know which shoulder a marcher lord rests his sword on? I'm just not sure how to find out....

2.) I can't stand a dirty kitchen. I am messy almost everywhere else. It annoys everywhere else, but I don't do anything about it. I'm compulsive about kitchens though. Do not let me into your dirty kitchen, because I will clean it, and you will owe me for it. Just because I like them clean, doesn't mean I like cleaning them.

3.) I adore Lilo and Stitch. Dad's been listening to Elvis recently, and every other song evokes a humorous image in my head of Lilo singing "Heartbreak Hotel", or Jumba saying enthusiastically, "I love this song!" It's ridiculous. I also occasionally quote nonsense out of nowhere, causing odd looks from people I don't know. Or do know. (*cough* "Wow. San Francisco." *cough*) I've never seen Lilo and Stitch 2, however, or Leroy and Stitch. Either of those any good? Anyone seen 'em? (I so need to own this movie...)

4.) I am capable of having a song stuck in my head for weeks at a time. (Ask Richard.) And once they get in there.... they never really get back out.... 8) Heh.

5.) My mind just slips a lot you know? I had something perfect for this spot. I thought of it two separate times. And it's just gone. I'm one of those people who you talk to, and I just kinda stare at you for a minute processing the words you've said, so I can derive the actual meaning. It takes me a minute to catch up with the real world. *shrugs* I like my fantasy world. *mutters* This is going to bother me for the rest of the day now....

Thanks goes to Kim (Cloud 9) for this, because 6.) This is my first meme! 'Tis 'citing, yes? (What does meme mean anyway (whoa *gets dizzy reading that*)? Is it an acronym, short for something? What?

And now to tag 6 new people:
Nathaniel (of course)
Magma
Bev
Dawn
Cathi
The Dynamic Uno

If any of you don't want to, s'all right. I have done my duty. If you do, have fun!

Blessings!
Shine~Ley

(*huffs* Yup, long post. Don't tell me to get random. I take it seriously.)

Fall Into Reading 2008!

Fall is here! Finally summer is over. If only all the bugs died on the first day of fall, I could be truly happy. Unfortunately, Tasha was telling horrifying tales of centipedes at supper today, so I know it can't be true. *sighs*

  35. The Indentured Heart by Gilbert Morris
  36. The Gentle Rebel by Gilbert Morris
  37. The Saintly Buccaneer by Gilbert Morris

Okay, those are my history books. You could say I've gotten behind.... Yeah, you could say that. They aren't quite all up there yet. Because I'm upstairs and too lazy to go down to find out the rest of them. Most of them also don't have authors. I'll fix that. Swear. But I'm too tired tonight. You're lucky you're getting this. Anywho, continuing on...

[Edit 9-25-08] Done! I'n' it pretty. It's also long. *nods solemnly* Yep. Oh! And did ya see I read Calico Canyon? Such a good book!

  1. Sushi for One? by Camy Tang ~
  2. Only Uni by Camy Tang ~
  3. Single Sashimi by Camy Tang ~
  4. Goodbye Hollywood Nobody by Lisa Samson ~
  5. Ripple Effect by Paul McCusker ~
  6. Forsaken by James David Jordan
  7. Infidel (the graphic novel) by Ted Dekker
  8. Leave It to Chance by Sherri Sand
  9. Matterhorn the Brave series by Mike Hamel

Those ones are FIRST and such books. I know I'll get these ones done. *grins*

  1. Daughter of the Flames by Nancy Holder
  2. Daughter of the Blood by Nancy Holder
  3. Son of the Shadows by Nancy Holder
  4. Calico Canyon by Mary Connealy ~

And those are just for fun. You gotta have some of those, yeah? ;)

So much is happening this fall. I've got to figure out college stuff. I've got a job (!) and school. October 1st is the grand opening (does that term still apply if nothing technically opens?) of the Marcher Lord Press And NaNoWriMo! Yes, I'm already planning. I'm fairly sure what story I'm doing, and there's a good reason there's not many "fun" books on my list. (As if I needed any more books on that list anyway. *rolls eyes*) In November I am not reading any fiction 'cepting FIRST and history. A wise decision I think. It should free up some of my time for writing and get me caught up with history some. Wish me lots of luck.

Well, I'm gone. I've got today's history book to read and... I don't know, I have a list downstairs. Promise I'll neaten (is that a word?) this list up later this week, but for now.... *shrugs* it's here!

Happy Fall, all!

It's All About Us and The Fruit of My Lipstick by Shelley Adina

I just finished the first book today. (I know. The tour's supposed to be for both books. I spaced, okay?) But anyway.... It was real. Maybe that's kind of an odd thing to start out with, but seriously, that's the thing that I noticed most. It's real.

Shelley Adina deals with issues, boyfriends, sex, whatever-you-want-to-call-it, in a way that really felt true to life, you know? Maybe I'm just not reading the right books (or all the wrong ones), but it seems like you don't get that many that deal with it so.... intimately. Not Christian books, anyways. *smiles*

And, mmm, you gotta love Gillian. My kind of girl, yeah? I can't wait to read The Fruit of My Lipstick. And I'm very much looking forward to seeing where Lissa going to go, now that she's back on track. Soon, very soon.... I'm holding myself to that.

Pure by Rebecca St. James

I've been working through this devotion book since I got it a month ago. And, God, I'm glad I have it. I've had need of it. Still do actually.

The main focus is, shockingly enough, purity. But not just purity of body (aka virginity *smiles*), but purity of the mind, the heart, the soul. Purity. What a concept, huh? This is an amazing book. And once I finish it, I plan on going through it again. It takes a couple tries for things to sink in with me. It's worth it. God is important to me. A relationship with God is important to me. I don't dare lose that.

(This is reminding me that I have yet to write On Innocence. Not that that one will ever get posted here, but still... need to write that one....)

The Summer the Wind Whispered My Name by Don Locke

[I'm a coming! Up at Randy and Cindy's this weekend, but hopefully I finished while I was there and can type this up as soon as I get back!]

(8-3-08) What a hectic weekend! Then again, is there really any other way to describe a house with 14 "big people" (above 16) and 2 "little people" (what 9 weeks and 15 months? I'm bad with "little people's" ages). *ponders a moment* Yeah, hectic. Insane. Whatever.

Anywho... somewhere amidst all the chaos I read The Summer the Wind Whispered My Name (and finished on time!). I must say, this is not a book I would ever pick up on my own. Not by the cover, not by the description, not the genre, not the time period. It is, what I would say, all wrong for me. Never pick it up on my own. And I absolutely loved it.

The thing I really loved was the POV. First person, yes. Not all that uncommon these days. Not at all, I'd say. But the thing about it that grabbed me was how he was narrating from a far-distant point, a point I think I'll understand better once I read The Reluctant Journey of David Connors. But I digress..... (as usual) It gives it.... oh, I don't know what. But something, and it makes the book just that much better.

Everything was so clearly depicted. The scene with Sheena... and Mouse... and.... o.O It gives me shudders. And giggles. I'm so curious to find out more about these people, what's happened to their lives.

And if you do read the book, you'll love the chapter titles.

It is time for the FIRST Blog Tour! On the FIRST day of every month we feature an author and his/her latest book's FIRST chapter!
